Deck the Halls & More

It’s the season of all things merry and bright. If you’re preparing to sell your home, set the stage appropriately during this festive time. While you may have visions of sugar plums prancing about, it’s best to keep décor modest and strike a balance between joyful and tasteful. Here are a few tips to guide your giving your home some holiday cheer:

Be scentsible. People experience space with all their senses, and fragrance is a great way to create a warm and inviting atmosphere. The smell of cinnamon, Frasier fir and fresh baked cookies generally recall positive memories and can help home shoppers connect with your space.

Deck (don’t stuff) the halls. We all love to go a little overboard with festive swag, but keep it toned down to increase marketability. Too much clutter will overwhelm potential buyers and make it difficult for them to see themselves in the space.

Keep calm and holiday on. Keep noises and animated decorations to a minimum. Flashing lights will detract a calming space, and flying reindeer may create some figurative whiplash.

Mind the light. Don’t let cumbersome décor prevent buyers from seeing natural light.

Remember curb appeal. Even with less daylight and cooler temps, buyers are paying attention to the yard. Clean and classic elements are usually a big win.

With the holidays upon us, making these decorative tweaks will surely add a touch of magic to the shopping experience for your prospective buyers.
