It was a critical week for financial markets and especially for rates as investors digested the
latest inflation data and the Fed’s smaller rate hike. In fact, the latest inflation data could be thought of as the most important and most persistent focus for rates all year long.
The mortgage market was relatively quiet week over week with some price volatility every day.
Inflation is still rapid and painful for many households, but it is finally beginning to show signs of turning a corner.
The Federal Reserve hiked rates by 0.75% this week and 30yr fixed mortgage rates moved moderately higher. Interestingly enough, those two things are fairly unrelated.
Mortgage rates lowered last week, while all eyes are on key events and data in the coming weeks.
This week’s mortgage market seemed to follow the 2022 trend with lots of price volatility.
